UCLA Social Enterprise Academy Students and Nonprofit Staff Participants: 

Happy New Year!

To the Students, we are excited to share with you the list of organizations that you will be working with while in the Academy and the team assignments. This is a very diverse set of organizations from around the US. This should make for a very exciting Academy this year as there is great potential for a wide range of social enterprises. We look forward to you delivering work of great value to them.

Attached again is the schedule of our Tuesday work sessions. Because our participating organizations come from all over, we will be doing the joint sessions marked in yellow on Zoom using this link,https://ucla.zoom.us/j/4334738531

We will do the sessions in white in person in Kaplan A65 from 6:15 - 9 pm.

You should reach out to each other to meet your teammates and start looking at the websites for your organizations. On Tuesday, I will ask you to assign one of you to be the point person for your communication with your organization and another person to coordinate the submission of the weekly progress reports (due each Monday at midnight). You might agree now who those will be.

I will follow up this email with one outlining the agenda for our first session soon.

I do want to remind all of you of our expectations that you will devote 9-10 hours per week outside of class to working on developing these social enterprises and that you will attend all of our Tuesday sessions both Winter and Spring Quarters. If you are not able to make this commitment, then please tell me know as we have students on the waiting list who would love to join the course.

To the Nonprofit Staff Participants, my name is Andy Atkeson. I am a professor at UCLA. I work with Archie Holton and Paul Van Berkom to put on the UCLA Social Enterprise Academy.

I am writing to you from the vehicle that we will use to communicate with you regarding the Academy. We will use this email to distribute our agenda for each session and any documents you will need in advance of the session. You can also write back to us here with any questions or concerns you might have throughout the Academy.

Please write back to me at this address to confirm that you have received this email. Also, please send me the names and emails of the other staff from your organizations who will be participating in our Academy and I will add them to our email list.

I look forward to meeting you all on ZOOM this Tuesday, January 7 at 6:15 pm Los Angeles time (PST) and introducing you to your student teams at that time.

We will use this link for our Zoom meeting room for our meeting on Tuesday and all of our joint meetings of students and staff. I have attached a schedule for those joint meetings. We meet with the students in person in the weeks in between the meetings listed on this schedule.

In our first session, we will ask you to do a 2-3 minute elevator pitch for your organization. Let us know why you are passionate about what you do.

This will allow us to get to know each other to kick things off. I have attached a short guide on how to put together an elevator pitch for your organization.

On Sunday or Monday morning each week, I will send you a longer introductory email covering the full agenda for our first session on Tuesday evening.
